One of Ethiopia’s most renowned emperors, Emperor Menelik II, had an equally celebrated wife, the Empress Taitu. She was decisive and determined.  It is said that while the Emperor often avoided unpleasant decisions by answering “ishi, nege” (okay, tomorrow), Empress Taitu would resolutely answer “imbi” (absolutely not!). A fierce warrior who commanded a battalion at the historic Battle of Adwa, her royal garments and graceful countenance radiated splendor and beauty.
